The Carbon Neutral Menu
The most common uses of carbon offsets are to reduce the environmental impact of your travel or energy use. What about food? Land-use, farming practice, and distribution emissions embodied in our diet make up over 30% of GHG emissions globally. However, very few opportunities exist to lower your footprint from the food you eat other than completely changing your diet. Even if you currently eat almost exclusively red meat, and go vegan, you still emit over 1.5 tonnes per year.
The Carbon Neutral Menu allows you to eliminate the carbon footprint of your diet, meal-by-meal. 1.5-3 tonnes (the average carbon footprint produced from eating vegan, and mostly meat respectively) divided across 100’s, if not 1000’s of meals that an individual eats every year makes the carbon footprint per meal very small. Thus, the cost to offset a single dish, even a whole meal, is likewise, minimal, if not insignificant.
Who Uses the Carbon Neutral Menu?
The Carbon Neutral Menu is designed for both restaurants and individuals. Restaurants can quantify their carbon footprint as a whole company, by dish, and even by individual ingredient. Individuals can select basic dishes they wish to offset even if the restaurant where they eat doesn’t provide the option. Owners, operators and managers who wish to create a customized Carbon Neutral Menu can fill out the form below. Individuals who want to offset their meals can purchase the package directly above.
